Back in May, web giant Google has launched Google Photos as a new place to store your photographs and video clips. Now the internet firm has announced that it is going to shut-down the legacy Google+ Photos app/service in favor of their new Google Photos app.

According to a Google+ post, the company will start the shut-down process on August 1st. The app will stop working initially on Android then web and iOS.

Essentially, Google+ Photos will offer you an option to download all of your photos and videos uploaded via the app. When the app will stop functioning, your data will still remain safe and available to download via http://photos.google.com or export using Google Takeout feature.

Update: More clarification from Google regarding the issue.
